notes
Winston Watusi - Bay News :
"A debut album of rare
beauty and poise; stylish , elegant and wistful.
Unreservedly recommended...
..subtle and beautifully understated songs with
a smooth and delicate flow...
if looking at comparisons for someone who has
never heard Traacie sing, I would put her in the
general territory explored by people like the Cowboy Junkies
or Julee Cruise....
Of the songs themselves, those lyrics written by Kieran, lyrically move within the mournful circle of the Cowboy Junkies.
Both "Something Better" and the stunning "Jude" have the haunting sadness and human insights that characterise the Canadian band...elsewhere, the mood drifts from the perky light jazz of "letter from home" to the laid back Steely Dan feel on "Summer in the City"..
...listen to the album with a copy of the lyric in front of you and .. hear the way she twists and turns the words around, lingering on some, emphasising particular phrases in unusual and evocative ways,
and all with a sensual, smooth
and utterly beguiling warmth... "
Nevin Topp - The Press :
"The Longest Day' is excellent to listen to."
Graham Reid - NZ Herald :
"de Jong writes and sings sophisticated
caberet material...lyrically avoids
most of the late-bar atmosphere cliches ...
sleepy sure voice ..all originals tastefully realised."
Brent Giblin - Christchurch Star :
" ***** Tracie has one of those voices ...flawless
beautifully crafted songs...Beautiful album, search it out."
